The <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">new <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Regulation (EU) No. 2015\/2424<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">, <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">amending Council Regulation (EC) No 207\/2009 on the Community trade mark,<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">entered into force on March 23, 2016 and introduced the following key changes to the EU trademark system: <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">The Community trademark (CTM) is now called the <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">European Union trademark (EU TM)<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) is now called the<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">The requirement for the marks to be represented graphically is deliberately removed in order to give space for registration of non-traditional signs, such as sound marks and motion marks.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">The holder of the EU trademark has the right to prevent the transit of goods through the EU, even if these goods are not intended for the EU market. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">The Regulation includes new provisions relating to certification marks.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">The EUIPO adopted the \u2018means what it says\u2019 approach according to which the scope of protection is interpreted by the literal meaning of the words used in the specification.
